After the Order of 66, Jedi Master Boe-mana Tora and apprentice Makal Lori, flee to the outer rim close to the planet of Lothal in an attempt to hide from the newly formed Galactic Empire. Understanding the importance of discretion, Boe-mana has stopped training her Padawan as she is constantly haunted by visions of pain and death. She too has become consumed with fear that her Padawan, who she regards as a lover will suffer the same fatal fate. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, Boemana and Makal are being seeked by a vicious sith lord called The Inquisitor who is searching for Makal and his soon to be fallen master. Jedi around the galaxy are being viciously hunted and killed by the evil Galactic Empire. Aware of the imminent danger, Jedi Master Boemana Tora and her Padawan Makal Lori, flee to the outer rim systems close to the planet of Lothal. "Exile: A Star Wars Fan Film" or "Star Wars Exile" is a 16-minute live action short film and since being released in spring 2016, it managed half a million views on world's biggest video website. The writer and director is actor Noel Braham and this is probably his most known work so far. This of course has to deal with the fact that the movie takes place in the universe of the world's most famous film franchise as you can already see from the title. Focus is as usual with Star wars on good vs evil and you also get the obligatory light saber fight sequence. Sadly, in terms of new and individual achievements, there is nothing memorable to this work. The music is of course from the original films and does not count either. Makeup and cinematography are somewhat enough, but these aspects weren't enough to make the characters (especially the bad guy) or story interesting or even memorable. I may be a bit biased as I have never been a huge Star wars fan at all, but I know the fans are pretty critical as well when it comes to their most beloved franchise, so they may be even harsher on this work here. Then again, this fan film has even received some awards attention, even at an awards body that apparently focuses completely on Star Wars. Anyway, I for once wasn't impressed at all and that's why I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended. While the filming and acting in this are decent and even exceptional, the story line is plodding. I give this 3 stars because of the excessive violence and gore. This is Star Wars at its darkest, with unnecessarily disturbing imagery. The plot jumps from one point to a pendulum opposite. It appears to be a series, but I personally would not watch a second episode. Definitely not for family viewing. 646f9e108c

Snake Plissken is once again called in by the United States government to recover a potential doomsday device from Los Angeles, now an autonomous island where undesirables are deported.
The year is 2013. Like New York, Los Angeles has been turned into a prison island for the United State's most undesirable criminals, like New York, Los Angeles is surrounded by a wall so no convict can escape from L.A and once deported to L.A. you can never return to the American mainland which has become a moral society. 16-years after he escaped from New York, One-Eyed former soldier Snake Plissken now the United State's most wanted outlaw is once again given another job for his freedom by the new President and L.A's security commander Malloy. Snake is sent into L.A. to recover a doomsday device that shuts all power sources on Earth from brutal terrorist Curevo Jones and the President's runaway daughter Utopia who has been brainwashed by Curveo into stealing the doomsday device, and the President personally wants Snake to eliminate Utopia for betraying her country. Like New York, Snake is injected with a engineered virus which will kill him in 9 hours if Snake fails the mission, if Snake succeeds in completing the mission, he will be given the antidote. Entering L.A, now inhabited by criminals, runaway teenagers, prostitutes and brutal gangs. Snake sets out to recover the doomsday device and kill Utopia, as Curevo and his army of terrorists prepares to invade the United States and can Snake escape from L.A. before the virus kills him in 9 hours?
The worst being Black Mask, but I digress.
I saw this movie in the theatres when it was released, and I still suffer from its sheer awfulness years later. It is partially to cleanse my soul that I write this review so that I may spare you, the poor reader, from its crappiness. It would be hard to try and make a movie this bad, but somehow they succeeded. It boggles my mind when I read some of the reviews for Escape from L.A. - it makes me think that there are two versions out there, the punch-you-in-the-solar plexus, gouge out your eyes version that some people saw... and the even worse one.
Do yourself a favor, don't see this movie. In the year 2000, Los Angeles suffers an earthquake; that cause it separation from the mainland. Now L.A. is not more part of the US and is a like a prison just for the people that don't accept the new "moral" laws. In 2013, Cuervo (a terrorist from L.A.) steals from the president's daughter a doomsday device so the new mission of "Snake" is to bring back that device and kill Utopia (president's daughter). To force "Snake" to do the mission, they plant in him a virus so he must return in 9 hours to get the cure.
If we take a fast look into the plot of this film, it looks like "Escape from New York". Mostly is the same but in this film we have a great critic to the US, maybe that's why this film wasn't a commercial success. I mean, the thing that the government did in the film to L.A. is like a critic to the racism that exist in the US. Also the dialog of the "land of the free" is great. And also in this film "Snake" most deal with a problem that involves all the human race and that can change the future of the world so things like that saves the plot of "Escape from L.A."
The cast is great, Kurt Russell is great like in the first one; is always cool to see Steve Buscemi and in this film is great. Also the cameos of Pam Grier, Peter Fonda, Bruce Campbell and Isaac Hayes (uncredited) are great.
So this film is like "Escape from New York: Deluxe", since the budget ($7,000,000 to $50,000,000), the magnitude of the problem in the plot and of course the expectation of all the fans of the first one.
For me this is a very good film that was really misunderstood when it was released and that have a cult following but there will be always the magic of the original in which Carpenter creates an environment that is not easy to recreate and in my opinion is one of the best environments in sci-fi/action films ever.
Conclusion: if i have to choose between the two "Escape from..." films, i will always choose New York but for me this is a very good film that works because of the great political and social critic and of course because of the great "Snake". 7.5 out of 10
PS: the end is nothing but great, in part similar to "New York" but in the very end with the phrase "welcome to the human race" is truly one of the best ends ever. Loud, rollicking, alternately ultra-violent and hilarious, Escape from L.A. is Snake redux, and what more do you need, really? Director John Carpenter commented just before the release of Escape From L.A. (1996) that IF this movie was successful then he would consider a third movie and that the only place left for Snake to escape from would be Earth. "Escape From Earth" was just an idea - Carpenter never even gave that title, it's just something people assumed it would be called.
Escape From L.A. evidentley was not a commercial success and so the idea of a third movie went no further than Carpenter's comment. Depends on your point of view. Snake's decision is to essentially turn Earth's history back to the Victorian era, pre-electricity, where a man like him would flourish as a self-reliant gunfighter and despeardo. On the other hand it's suggested that humankind has deteriorated into tyranny so he essentially tears a corrupt society down and replaces it with a more egalitarian society 'Cabin in the Woods' style instead. a5c7b9f00b
